I walked around for about 15 minutes thinking, as with pins and needles, the feeling would return. It didn't. Once more we consulted NHS Direct - "Call 999", it instructed us, "you are having a stroke". Once more I called them - and they called the ambulance for me, they were worried.

This is when the lesson was learned - if you even think you need an ambulance call it, that is why they exist! The paramedics were very attentive, they wired me up they heard me out, and they decided they were taking me into hospital. My wife made a call and my mother in law arrived to look after the children just in the nick of time, allowing my wife to follow the ambulance. On arrival I was taken straight to casualty and wired up, x-rayed, blood was taken, a lot of waiting ensued.

I was admitted over night into the acute medical ward, where once again I was wired - I did have a very hairy chest when I went in, with all of the sticky pads, that didn't last long!!! Ouch!! I have a morbid fear of dying alone, and I hated the thought of being left there alone in a ward with 6 strangers. I was scared. For the first time that week I was truly scared.
